2009, The Year the Aliens Land

There has been a great deal of discussion and debate about the significance of UFO phenomena, especially since the UFO flap of 1947. I personally have never seen one, but I have had strange experiences that simulated to my mind phenomena that were UFO-like, and I have spoken with several people who have had experiences that either fall into or resemble this category of experience. I have no pet theory for an explanation of such phenomena, either my own or anyone else's. The data is yet too diverse and mystifying by its very nature from my point of view.

As an astrologer, however, I look forward to a planetary transit coming up in 2009 that suggests to me a rather significant correspondence to the UFO phenomenon. That is the transit of Pluto to the winter solstice point of the tropical zodiac, thus entering the sign of Capricorn.

Pluto is the planet of transcendental consciousness. It was discovered in 1930, the time at which physicists formulated the theory of Quantum Mechanics. This very successful scientific theory has revolutionized our thinking about the nature of matter in a way that opens our conceptions about reality to mind-boggling proportions. Inter-dimensional interactions are no longer only the province of religion and magick, but now also of established science.

The winter solstice point is the seasonal referent for the focus of human energy toward the organization of society, because winter is the season during which collective management comes most prominently into play. The Cardinal sign Capricorn therefore consolidates the political leadership qualities of human existence. In the esoteric sense, this focus represents the operation of the Godhead of humanity.

Pluto has a very long orbital period of 248 years. His last transit to the winter solstice point occurred in 1762. In looking at history, we find that Rousseau's "The Social Contract" and Voltaire's "Treatise on Tolerance" appeared at the time of Pluto's last transit to the winter solstice. Also, 1762 was the year that Mozart toured Europe at age six, dazzling audiences as a child prodigy.

Mozart had his natal Mars in the degree of the summer solstice (1st degree of Cancer) in his Tenth House of public achievement, so Pluto's transit to the winter solstice exactly opposed his natal Mars, stimulating his public demonstration from the inner depths of his personality (Fourth House, taproot to the collective unconscious).

It would be very difficult, however, to ascertain much in the way of major governing occurrences associated with the transit of Pluto to the winter solstice point in 1762. From an historical perspective, there was no potential for a global infrastructure at that time, and Pluto was not known to exist then. In fact, none of the trans-Saturnian planets had yet been discovered. Their subsequent discoveries (Uranus in 1781, Neptune in 1846, and Pluto in 1930) corresponded to major expansions of human consciousness that have fundamentally transformed the face of modern world culture and civilization.

Pluto's transits through the signs of the zodiac since his discovery in Cancer in 1930, entering Leo in 1938, Virgo in 1957, Libra in 1972, Scorpio in 1983 and Sagittarius in 1995 tell a very interesting story. Since his discovery, he has moved from the personal end of the zodiac (the summer solstice, initiating Cancer) toward the collective end (the winter solstice, initiating Capricorn), moving from more personalized forms of transcendental consciousness progressively toward more collective forms of transcendental consciousness. This certainly seems to be appropriate to corresponding experiential developments over the past 70 plus years.

As Pluto continues his transit through the Fire sign, Sagittarius, he is 'quantumizing,' as it were, the visionary and religious (archetypal) component of collective human experience, thereby setting the stage for a structured activation of collective consciousness as he reaches the winter solstice point in 2009, entering the Earth sign, Capricorn. This suggests some equivalent of an alien landing scenario, i.e., the infusion of inter-dimensional awakening through the very institutions of collective management, namely governmental and corporate administration.

What I think is important about the upcoming transit of Pluto to the winter solstice point does not pertain to any kind of 'invasion' from outer space, but rather the 'illumination' of collective structures of human existence from within our own nervous systems, our brains and bodies, affecting our understanding of our unity in terms of global culture and civilization.

I believe it is true that the UFO phenomenon as a whole does imply a connection with extraterrestrial intelligence, but the spatial orientation of alienness does not adequately address the fact that, from a quantum perspective, space itself is a mental construct, and WE are just as much a part of the greater Universe as we are a part of Earth.
